A Vision for Maryland’s Future
Tazeen is running for office because she believes Maryland is at a critical crossroads. The state faces growing challenges: housing shortages, budget deficits, stagnant economic growth, and attacks on essential services like healthcare, education, and civil rights. As national protections are rolled back, Maryland must lead with urgency and resolve.
Tazeen brings a rare combination of policy experience, business acumen, nonprofit leadership, and grassroots advocacy. She’s not a career politician—she’s a neighbor, a listener, and a problem-solver who is ready to get to work for the people of District 16.
A Record of Service That Speaks for Itself
Tazeen has spent her career working on behalf of Maryland families. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Interfaith Works, a Montgomery County nonprofit that provides shelter, housing, employment programs, and addressed basic needs to more than 35,000 residents annually.
In November 2024, Governor Wes Moore appointed her to the Maryland Commission for Women, where she helps shape policies that advance gender equity and protect women’s rights. In April 2025, she was appointed by County Executive Marc Elrich to the Western Montgomery County Citizens Advisory Board, which advises the Montgomery County Executive and County Council on local issues including land use, transportation, education, public safety, and budgetary matters.
Turning Compassion into Action
In 2019, Tazeen Ahmad co-founded the Up 2 Us Foundation with her daughter, Marium, inspired by a simple kitchen-table conversation about students arriving hungry at the school where Marium worked as a counselor. What began as a modest, home-based effort quickly grew into a major regional initiative to combat food insecurity across Maryland and Washington, D.C.
With limited resources but a clear vision, Tazeen helped transform Up 2 Us into a large-scale food distribution operation. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the foundation delivered over 1 million pounds of food to families in need. She led the formation of more than 30 partnerships with local nonprofits and faith-based organizations—demonstrating how innovation, collaboration, and compassion can drive lasting community impact.
For her leadership and service, Tazeen was honored as one of the 100 Maryland Sheroes by the Maryland Commission for Women in 2020.
A Trusted Political Voice for Women and Families
As President of the Montgomery County Women’s Democratic Club (WDC), one of Maryland’s most influential Democratic clubs, Tazeen has led voter education campaigns, organized candidate forums, and advocated for policies that strengthen democracy and support working families. She has advocated for expanded voting rights, special elections to fill vacancies, affordable childcare, school meals for all children, reproductive and maternal health, access to safe, affordable housing, and more.
Previously, she served as a Commissioner on the Montgomery County Commission for Women, where she co-chaired the 2020 Women’s Legislative Briefing. She also chaired the Victim Services Advisory Board (VSAB), where she worked on behalf of victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and those navigating the justice system.
Experience That Delivers Results
Tazeen is the Chief Financial Officer at a bipartisan government relations firm in Washington, D.C., where she oversees financial strategy, compliance, reporting, and operations. She also has experience managing a family-owned business and understands the real-world pressures facing local businesses and working families.
She holds a B.A. in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Journalism.
